Short bio

Aaron Burton is a Screen Production lecturer at University of Wollongong.

He has wide-ranging industry experience from independent filmmaking to art installations. His creative practice includes numerous prizes and exhibitions, such as the 2012 Colombo Art Biennale and the inaugural Jeremy Hynes Award 2009 (IMA).

Burton’s doctoral research, Provenance in Personal Documentary traverses scholarly work in media art, art history, cultural studies and ethnography.

His feature-length documentary My Mother’s Village (2014) revisits a series of ethnographic films made in Sri Lanka in the 1970s by Burton’s parents and presents a fascinating intergenerational study of village life across globalisation.
